Several factors may account for the incidence of one having wide hips. Two common factors always mentioned as the major causes of the wide hip include large hipbones or excess fat which had accumulated in the hip area. It can only be possible to reduce the hip size if the cause is associated with excess fat in the body. If the wide hip is as a result of bone, I am afraid that not much can be done to reduce it.

A simple walk or jog of about 45 minutes routinely can make a different in the fat content on the hip.
Moreover, such individual can take to skating or riding a bicycle. This is a light aerobic exercise and it helps burn the fat level in the hip if observed routinely by the patient of wide hip.
Furthermore the exercise can be extended to squats. This could be started by the patient with their two legs spread about the width of the shoulder. There are different ways of doing squatting but at the end of the day the main aim is to have the hip dispense of the fat contents. The other exercise one could do include doing lungs. It also burns off the fats in the body system.
