metabolismMaintaining a healthy weight is essential to keep in good general health and avoid falling sick. Although you may have considered any number of weight loss plans and diets that promise you instant results, the medical opinion is that crash dieting is bad for your health.

Such plans are seldom effective at losing and, most importantly, keeping off excess weight. A diet that leaves you feeling hungry will only result in binge eating brought on by cravings.

One of the best ways to lose weight is to increase your metabolism. So, how can you increase metabolism?

Some Natural Metabolism Boosters

You can make improvements to your metabolism with just a few lifestyle or diet changes. Regular exercise will on its own cause an increase in metabolism; here are a few more tips:

1. Eat Breakfast: Don’t even think about not eating breakfast, a large healthy breakfast helps you to burn off calories more quickly. Whole foods are best.

2. Eat Little and Often: Forcing yourself to starve is a bad thing for metabolism and slows down the metabolism. Try and eat small meals regularly and it’s a good idea to stick to regular meal times.

3. Change Your Diet: Get a good balanced diet with carbohydrates, vitamins, proteins and minerals. These can be found in fruits and vegetables, especially legumes and beans. Processed foods are more slowly digested and slow down the metabolism.

4. Take Some Exercise: This is absolutely vital. Take some regular cardiovascular aerobic exercise.

5. Grow Your Strength: This is something that you can take on once you’ve lost excess weight; building muscles through exercise will increase your metabolism.

6. Drink Plenty of Water: Did you know that drinking ordinary tap water increases your metabolism? Well, it does: aim to have eight to ten glasses of water each day. Try and avoid quenching your thirst with caffeine drinks or fizzy sodas.

7. Deal With Your Stress: Stress is your enemy in so many ways that to lead a healthy life you should do everything you can to de-stress. Yoga is good, and also good exercise, but so is meditation.

8. Get a Good Night’s Sleep: If you’re exercising then getting enough rest is especially important. You should really be getting six or seven hours of sleep at the very least, and it will increase your metabolism.

9. Change Your Lifestyle: A good regular schedule will help you improve your metabolism: eat and exercise at regular times. Don’t eat a large meal late at night and if you do smoke or drink then try and cut these down to a minimum. Try and find things you enjoy and which bring you joy too! What’s the point of being slim and healthy if you’re miserable and bored?

Any of these simple steps will help you to increase your metabolism and, therefore, burn off excess weight. Don’t be overly strict with yourself and try and make this an enjoyable project and something you’ll be able to maintain around your usual lifestyle.
