Carb Blockers for Weight Loss- Do They Really Work?

by FitnessExpert on April 7, 2010

Weight loss diets and many fad diets come and go. Obese people tend to quit weight loss plans sooner than they should. The reason behind this mentality is that they do not want to change their eating habits. Scientific community and dieticians have found a way to tackle this issue. Carb blockers have been formulated so that you can enjoy your food without worrying about weight gain.

How Carb Blockers Work

We know that Carbohydrate, fat and protein are three major component of any food. Our digestive system comes into action the moment we eat something. Carbohydrate is broken down into glucose which gives us energy. Our body uses as much energy as is required for proper functioning of different organs. The Surplus carbohydrate is converted into fat. This stored fat is used for energy when your body goes into starvation mode i.e. without food for more than 18 hours.

Your body keeps depositing fat that makes you obese. The whole theory behind Carb blocker is to stop your body from absorbing carbohydrates so that it starts using body fat for energy.

An enzyme called alpha amylase is responsible for breaking down carbohydrate. Carb blocker inhibits the release of this enzyme. Up to 60 percent of carbohydrate can be restricted from being absorbed by the body. Unprocessed carbohydrate is flushed out of the body without getting deposited in the form of fat. As your body starts using fat for energy, you start losing weight.

Side Effects of Carb Blockers

You may feel nauseating or bloating sensation when you use Carb blocker for the first time. Manufactures of reputed brands claim that these symptoms disappear within a day or two.

How Much Weight Can We Lose By Using Carb Blockers?

People respond differently to Carb Blocking Pills. It may not be suitable for some people. You can lose a few pounds initially but you must not expect some remarkable change in your weight. There is a limitation to Carb blocker’s ability to restrict carbohydrate consumption. No blocker will restrict 100% consumption of Carbohydrate. However it will give you the freedom of eating starchy foods once in a while .You need not count calories because Carb blocking pills will flush out unused calories very easily.
