Though teeth whitening is a cosmetic procedure, it has many other dental benefits associated with it. Many dental issues like Gingivitis which is also known as Pyorrhea is a result of poor dental care. Yellowish stains on teeth are often an indication of some serious dental issues in many cases.

Here we’ll have a look at some of the reasons of Gingivitis or Pyorrhea and how to get rid of it. Gingivitis is a result of inflammation and infection of gums that surround your teeth. Poor dental care and sometimes ill fitting dental equipments lead to this condition. Poor eating habits which may be the reason behind heavy plaque deposit may also cause Gingivitis in some cases. Though proper cleaning of teeth may help you avoid this condition, many people do not realize it until their teeth are infected with pyorrhea.

Following are some symptoms of Pyorrhea or Gingivitis

  • Swelling – Gums of either side of teeth become tender when infected by gingivitis. Swelling is often followed by pain in gums.
  • Bleeding – People suffering from mild pyorrhea will notice blood stains on toothbrush. This is when you should start taking care of teeth to avoid spreading the infection to the root of the teeth.
  • Bad Breath- As pus and inflammation cause foul smell, people suffering from gingivitis often suffer from bad breath as well.
  • Plaque Deposit- Once the infection has spread to a considerable level, plaque deposits become visible.
  • Bad Taste – You may lose taste in your mouth because of this infection therefore it is better to start the treatment as soon as possible.

  • Brush twice a day- It is the easiest way to avoid gingivitis or any other dental infection. Make sure that you brush your teeth twice a day, both morning and night.
  • Fluoride Toothpaste- Using fluoride toothpaste is a good way to avoid dental infection. However expert medical advice should be sought before using it on regular basis. It may sometimes be counter production if you do not need fluoride.
  • Clean Dental Appliances- Make sure that your removable dental appliances are clean and free of germs.
  • Visit your Dentist- if you have ever suffered from Gingivitis; make it point to have your teeth checked every six months.
