How to Keep Yourself Motivated While Losing Weight

by FitnessExpert on April 9, 2010

Most obese people have whatever it takes to remain fit but they are not motivated enough to lose weight. Even if they join some weight loss program, they are soon fed up with it. Weight loss is more about a healthy way of life than fad diets or quick-fix fitness program.

It is quite normal to be distracted if you are not gaining result. However the reason behind not gaining any result might be your irregularity in following the fitness program. If you keep finding excuses for your inability to follow your weight loss plan, your fitness level will remain same no matter what program you join.

Followings are some tips to stay motivated while losing weight

  • Realistic Goal: The biggest de-motivator is your unrealistic expectation from your weight loss program. Do not expect to be slim and trim in a week or so. Set realistic goals and try to achieve them within a preset time frame.
  • Keep Your Long Term Weight Loss Goal Well Defined: Though some people believe writing your goals on a piece of paper is a waste of time. Surprisingly this simple technique works well. If you read your fitness goal daily, you will achieve it faster.
  • Do Not Measure Your Weight Every Day: You cannot monitor your weight on day to day basis. If you do so, you will often be disappointed. Measure your weight every week or every 15 days so that you can see the difference. You will quit the program very easily if you do not notice any change in your weight on daily basis.
  • Watch TV or Listen to Music: People are soon fed up with workouts and physical training sessions because they do not make it interesting. Make sure that you listen to your favorite music while working out. It will distract you from physical fatigue and you will end up burning more calories.
  • Hire A Personal Trainer: Though it is somewhat costly, it works as a great motivating factor. Your trainer will also tell you the same thing that you already know but you will remain motivated if you have to report your progress to him/her on daily basis. Hire a personal trainer if you can afford it.
