Walking has always been one of the most popular forms of exercise. Not only is it easy to do but it does not require special equipment or money to be effective. You can walk in the park, down the street or anywhere you feel like walking. If you are thinking about reducing your weight, then walking is the perfect exercise for you. Research has shown that walking one hour a day can help to increase metabolism and help your body burn fat and calories at a faster rate.
The metabolism is the deciding factor for how much weight is lost and how much weight remains on the body. If you have a slow metabolism then you will find that it is very difficult to lose weight. If your metabolic rate is at the normal accepted level then you should lose weight at a steady pace. The more you walk the faster your metabolism rate quickens, as brisk walking will help circulation and increase blood flow to the heart, as well as increasing the amount of oxygen pumped to your muscles. Increased blood flow and oxygen are contributing factors for quickening metabolic rate.
You should start out walking at a relatively slow place for the first few days, especially if you are a beginner. Walk every day for half an hour for the first week or so. When your body is used to the pace, increase exercise time to an hour. You will notice that after just a few weeks, your fitness levels will change, and you will be able to walk faster and for longer periods. Your body will adapt to its new found fitness regimen, causing an overall metabolic response. Therefore, the more you walk, the faster your body will burn fat. Eventually your metabolism will increase to the point where you will have to increase your fitness routine to fall in line with your new found fat burning capabilities.
After a few months of walking, you may want to introduce power walking or speed walking into your exercise regimen. Power walking is well known for burning fat at a rapid rate. If you want to lose copious amounts of fat then this would be the exercise for you. One fact you need to remember when power walking, large amounts of sweat will be lost. Increased water loss means that you should up your water intake levels. It is well known that we should consume at least eight large glasses of water a day to remain healthy. However when you are exercising it is different. The body needs an extra glass of water for every hour spent exercising. One factor you do not want to have happen is dehydration, as this will defeat the purpose of exercising. When your body is dehydrated, it holds on to water, causing bloating, water retention and loss of energy. This will also result in a reduced metabolic rate. Therefore, always keep your body fully hydrated in order to keep your body working at its optimum level.
Continue on your quest to walk as much as you can. The more you walk the faster your metabolism will become and the more fat you burn the healthier you will feel.
