south beach dietThe South Beach Diet was originally developed by a Doctor by the name of Dr Arthur Agatston. He first came up with the diet to help his patients with heart problems, but as he witnessed their rapid weight loss he decided to market the idea to the general public.

Like most diets the south beach diet involves limiting your intake of a particular food group, in this instance it is carbohydrates. But unlike the Atkins Diet you do not eliminate carbs from your diet totally, you simply replace them for good carbs such as brown bread and fruits.

If you are wondering whether the south beach diet actually works, I can tell you from first-hand experience that it works very well. I lost 35 lbs on the south beach diet. Here are some tips on how to lose weight on the south beach diet plan.

First and foremost get your hands on a copy of the South Beach Diet Plan by Arther Agatson. Once you have a copy read through it thoroughly.

The south beach diet is split into three phases. The first phase is the hardest, because of this you will probably lose more weight during the first phase than any of the other phases.

Once you have decided that you want to go ahead with the diet go through your fridge and throw out any foods that are not recommended in the book. Now go shopping and buy all the foods that you are permitted to eat in the first phase of the diet. This step in the diet is very important as it acts as a detox helping you to prepare your body for the lack of carbohydrates and sugars you will be consuming. This stage lasts for two weeks; here you will eat six small meals spread out during the day. Your foods will consist of lean proteins, vegetables and dairy products only. You must not consume any bread, pasta, rice, potatoes or fruits.

The second stage allows you to slowly start introducing carbohydrates back into your diet plan, you will now be able to eat things like whole grain bread and fruit, and you will stay at this level until you have reached your desired weight loss goal. You will find that during this phase the rate that you lose weight will slow down.

The final stage of the south beach diet is what you will stick with for the rest of your life. Once you have reached your desired weight, in order to stick to it you will need to constantly monitor your weight. If your ideal weight is between 120-125lbs your weight should never drop below 120lbs or go over 125lbs. By this stage you will know what types of carbohydrates make you put on weight so you will know not to eat them. Your cravings for bad foods will also have diminished by this phase so you should find it not so difficult to stay away from them.
