Many people ask if Pilates will help them to lose weight. The quick answer is yes, it will help in whatever weight loss program you follow. Even just beginners classes will help. But it is possible that your body can become used to the Pilates program you are on and no longer be as effective as a weight reduction tool.
That’s the point when it’s time to add a little bit extra to your routine and really burn those calories away. Follow these tips.
Do a faster paced routine.
Pilates is all about breathing and stretching. In beginners’ classes, exercises are done slowly, establishing alignment,
inner-attention and a chance to learn the routines. If weight loss is your goal, then picking up the pace and zoning in on the key principles of flow and breath will be big boosts.
Try talking to your Pilates instructor too. The instructor may have good reasons for keeping it slow but may just not be getting any feedback to warrant a faster class. At least if you make your needs known, the instructor may be able to place you in a more advanced group.
If you practice Pilates at home, then make sure you know a few routines really well. Concentration needs to be on speed, not on remembering the forms. Stopping every couple of minutes to remind yourself how to do an exercise will not raise your metabolism. Don’t forget that a new exercise thrown in to your Pilates mix can be just as challenging as picking up the pace.
Fully Commit to Each Exercise
Sometimes it’s not possible to move quickly through a Pilates routine. When this happens, make extra certain that you are stretching to full your full capability. Engage fully with the routine and really exert yourself to reduce your weight.
Add Equipment
Adding equipment can really boost weight loss in Pilates. It challenges the body in new ways and can help beat any boredom in repetitive routines. If you have never tried them before, reformers and barrels will make all your routines interesting. Try signing up for a new class that focuses on a piece of equipment.
Less Resistance
This may seem strange but if you use Pilates resistance equipment then try using less resistance. This is excellent advice for anyone using a reformer. Less resistance actually makes the body work harder because the body loses stability. Core muscles especially receive a greater workout. This is also a good tip when using fitness bands or a magic circle.
Workout More Frequently
This is the most obvious tip. The more time you train using Pilates, the more weight you will lose.
Keep An Exercise Log
Nothing beats putting it down in writing. Make sure all your Pilates exercise goals are written down, especially how much weight you want to lose. Being able to look back at your journey is a powerful reminder of what you have achieved so far. Being able to look forward to hitting your goals can give you a great prompt when you feel like backing off.
