When it comes to pregnancy it can be confusing to spot the signs and symptoms, especially in the early stages. If your pregnancy was not planned then you need to be aware of the symptoms to avoid any unnecessary complications. The most common symptoms of pregnancy are as follows.

Fatigue

symptoms of pregnancyOne of the most common symptoms of pregnancy is fatigue, most women experience this especially in the very early stages of pregnancy. This general lethargic feeling can be as a result of the raised levels of progesterone in the body. This can make you feel really tired and all together exhausted.

Bad taste in the mouth

Another common symptom of pregnancy is a bad taste in the mouth, some women report an almost metallic taste on the tongue. This can greatly effect the taste buds making some women reject the foods they would have normally loved eating. Normally women have an urge to avoid strong tasting things such as coffee or peppermint.

Implantation Bleeding or Stomach Pains

When it comes to symptoms of pregnancy a lot of women don’t realise that a minute amount of very dark brownish blood can be a sign of implantation bleeding. This is when the egg is in bedding itself into the wall of the uterus. This can also cause some very mild or severe stomach pains. Many women have reported feeling like they normally feel when menstruation is about to start.

Regular Urination

Most women will notice the increased need to go to the bathroom, it may even feel like you are constantly getting up to urinate. However this is very common and should be taken as a sign of a weak bladder.

Food Cravings

Food cravings is common but not every woman experiences this, and it normally occurs around the 12th week or slightly earlier.

Increased Levels of Salivation

When it comes to the symptoms of pregnancy this one is not so common, this is a condition that happens to very few women but it can be a sure fire sign of pregnancy. Medical professionals are not quite sure what causes this increased salivation but women who experience it have reported that it is very uncomfortable and impossible to relieve. It is thought that this symptom of pregnancy is caused by the increased levels of hormones in the body as this can stimulate saliva glands. There has also been speculation that heart burn is the root cause, due to the fact acid from the stomach is regurgitated back into the oesophagus thus causing increased levels of salivation. These reasons have not yet been justified. However this can still be seen as a symptom of pregnancy.

Morning Sickness

This is a very common symptom of pregnancy, however although it is called morning sickness, it does not necessarily occur in the morning. It can happen any time of the day and can be a constant cause of misery to pregnant women. Some women might feel a general feeling of nausea whereas some will actually regurgitate. This is really widespread and some have even said it is a sign of a healthy pregnancy.

These are the general symptoms of pregnancy however one should not use this as the only way of finding out you are pregnant. The best thing to do initially is to take a home pregnancy test, if it is indeed positive, then a trip to the Doctor’s office is recommended.
