Physical Fitness – Why Exercise is Important for Overall Fitness

by FitnessExpert on May 12, 2010

Maintaining your physical fitness and overall health requires a perfect combination of proper nutrition and regular exercise. Many health supplement manufacturers claim that no physical exercise is mandatory for fitness if you use their product. These false promises are just a way to convince you about their products. Though some supplements show remarkable results in the beginning, you cannot keep your fitness level in perfect condition unless you combine your diet program with an exercise plan.

Taking exercise is the most effective way to lose weight and maintain your fitness for long. Not only does it help you remain fit but also increases your longevity. Let us have a look at how exercise affects your overall fitness.

  • Healthy Heart- When you take exercise regularly, you increase your heart rate which results in faster pumping of fresh blood to different parts of your body. As fresh blood reaches every part of your blood circulation, your immune system gets a boost. Plaque buildup on the arterial walls melts away and your blood pressure normalizes. If you can do some physical activity that can force your heart to work at its maximum possible efficiency for 20 minutes every day, you will see remarkable change in your overall fitness.
  • Better Mental Functions- When purified blood is pumped to your brain, your memory and 5 senses start working in perfect order. Hormonal imbalances are regulated which helps the related organ work properly.
  • It Detoxifies Your Lungs- Environmental pollution and poor eating habits cause huge buildup of toxins in your lungs. Regular exercise helps you detoxify your lungs. In fact we do not take deep breaths unless we workout rigorously. When you breathe deeply, you detoxify your lungs effortlessly.
  • It strengthens your muscles- The flexibility and strength of your muscles start weakening after a certain age. Exercise boosts the flexibility of your muscles and increases the overall strength of your bones. Weight training or cardio vascular workouts or a combination of both works wonders for overall stamina and stronger bones.

Of course proper nutrition is an important part of physical fitness but you must not forget that physical training remains an important part of any fitness program.
