Theoretically speaking, weight loss is a matter of burning more calories than you consume. However it is not that simple in practical life scenario. In fact it is the most challenging part of any weight loss program. First of all keeping a track of calories is a tedious task. Secondly the moment you start counting calories, you lose the enjoyment of eating a sumptuous meal.
However I must say that burning calories is as easy as gaining calories. All you need to do is pay attention to some minor eating habits and replace the high calorie diet with a low calorie substitutes.
How Much Calories You Need
- BMR: Your Basal Metabolic Rate is the minimum number of calories required by your body for maintaining some of the basic functions like digestion, breathing, kidney functions etc. Internet will provide you with tools to calculate your approximate BMR depending upon your weight, age, gender etc.
- How Much Calories You Burn: A good calorie calculator will help you calculate how much calories are burned while doing regular activities throughout the day.
- Calories Consumed: You can keep a track of your calorie consumption by paying attention to the nutritional details of whatever you eat.
Once you have collected the above mentioned caloric details; you need to do the math. Add BMR and the number of calories you burn every day. Subtract the number of consumed calories from the sum of BMR and the number of burned calories. You will gain weight if your calorie consumption is higher than the burned calories.
What you need to do is reduce your calorie consumption by substituting some of your calorie rich foods with low calorie foods. You can save more than 90 calories just by substituting a bottle of soft drink by plain water. You will soon realize how easy it is to reduce the consumption of up to 500 calories per day.
Moreover you can speed up the rate of burning calories by taking regular walks and climbing stairs. A 10 minute’s brisk walk can burn up to 100 calories. Similarly you can do many other physical activities that will help your burn calories faster.
