by FitnessExpert on April 26, 2010

Losing weight and remaining fit requires some planning and dedication. Weight loss for teenage girls is no different. In fact teenagers require more dedication because temptation to try fad diets during teenage is very high. Moreover young girls have some specific nutritional needs therefore overall health must be kept in mind before trying any weight loss program.

Teenage girls are more conscious about their looks than adults therefore they are easily lured by quick weight loss programs. They need not try any weight loss program if they start eating right.  Following are some useful weight loss tips for teenage girls.

  • Start Early –Slight obesity during teenage is quite normal because of physical changes and overall growth of the body. You must not be alarmed just because you do not fit into your old pair of jeans. You should start taking steps to lose weight only if you keep gaining weight despite taking care of your diet and overall health. In such situations, the sooner you start developing good eating habits the better.
  • Make a Plan- Just like general weight loss plans, you must write down your weight loss goals. How much weight you want to lose within what timeframe? Make your goals clear and start your weight loss plan as soon as possible.
  • Cut down on Fast Food- Start eating healthy foods instead of junk food. Though you need not sacrifice your enjoyment, you must make a conscious effort to avoid unhealthy food whenever possible.
  • Beware of Miracle Diets- No miracle diet will make you slim in weeks. In fact you must avoid taking fad diets. Start eating homemade foods while ensuring that your nutrition needs are fulfilled.
  • Exercise- You need not necessarily get yourself enrolled into a weight loss program. You can participate in various school activities. Play your favorite outdoor games regularly. Aerobics and yoga are also good for weight loss.
  • No Fasting- If you believe that fasting will help you shed weight; think again. You will deprive your body of essential nutrients when it needs them the most. Eat healthy diet instead. You can start eating small and healthy meals at regular intervals.

Apart from these tips , try to drink as much water as you can. Avoid caffeinated drinks and make sure that you eat lots of green vegetables, fresh fruits, salads, wholegrain etc.
