Teenage obesity is on the rise in developed world. More than 15 percent of teenagers are obese today. The combination of junk food and no physical activities is a major factor behind this ever rising health issue. Today’s obese child is tomorrow’s obese adult. Tackling this issue of obesity is quite easy if good eating habits are developed during childhood.
Weight gain during teenage is quite common because of rapid physical and mental growth. Hormonal secretion and irregular functions of some glands trigger weight gain. Of course bad eating habits and sedentary lifestyle aggravates the problem. Unlike teenagers of twenty years ago, new generation kids spend most of their time in front of either a PC or TV. They are often attracted to fad diet that are advertised as a quick-fix solution to weight gain.
Why Fad Diets Do Not Work For Teenagers
In general fad diets do not yield permanent results even in adults but they are harmful for teenagers. For example Low Calorie diet may work for an adult but the same diet will slow down the metabolism of a teenager. Your body’s natural defense mechanism gets into action and starts storing the fat which results in weight gain.
When a teenager’s body goes into starvation mode, it starts using muscles for energy. This is harmful for overall growth of the body. If you do not let your muscles develop properly; you will see the results in your adult life. Often teenagers, who start eating fad diets, do not gain proper height and muscular body even after attaining adulthood.
How to Lose Weight During Teenage
The best and most effective way to lose weight during teenage is to keep yourself active by participating in outdoor activities and reducing the consumption of junk food. Do not be alarmed by weight gain unless it seems to be some disorder. Often a teenager’s growing body responds differently to the changes that take place in the body. With the passage of time hormonal secretions and functions of different glands stabilize and you start gaining a perfect body.
Do not go for weight lifting during the teenage years. Let your body develop naturally by participating in natural physical activities. Join a gym but do not start weight lifting. You can develop muscles later. In fact you hamper your chances of developing a muscular body if you start weight lifting during teenage.
